description: The HEPPIX flocculant product range was developed for the physico-chemical separation of solid/liquid systems.
The properties of the base polymer chitosan can be varied both in chain length (molecular weight) and cationicity (degree of deacetylation), allowing them to be specifically tailored to the respective sludge. Adding the products to the system causes flocculation of undissolved organic and inorganic solids from slurries and sludges, which then become easily filterable or sedimentable.
HEPPIX products are predominantly cationic. The base product chitosan forms complex bonds with divalent and higher-valent metals and can therefore also be used to reduce metals and pollutants from water bodies. Sludge from manufacturing processes in the food industry can be used as animal feed, provided it is not contaminated. According to OECD 301F, HEPPIX products are already 61.9% degraded after 28 days. The requirements of the German Fertilizer Ordinance (DüMV) are thus met.
In laboratory tests, the most effective flocculant from the HEPPIX range must first be determined experimentally in a specific case.
The development work on both the product and in application research
enables the use of HEPPIX in many areas, such as:
Flocculation of
- River and pond sediments
- Protein-containing wastewater from the food industry
- Starchy process water
- Metals and paints
- Sulfate and iron from groundwater
- Algae in swimming pools and other bodies of water
- Fatty water with food waste from commercial kitchens and for the regeneration of boiler and heating circuit water

- Thickeners
- Belt and angle presses
- Filter presses
- Centrifuges
- Flotations
- Drainage hoses (drain bags)
Advantages of using HEPPIX products:
1. Stable in storage, even as a ready-to-use solution for several days and weeks under suitable storage conditions (see Storage).
2. Non-hazardous to water, therefore no double containers or leak protection devices are necessary.
3. Easy to handle, as the flocculant is not is hazardous to health
4. Unlike synthetic polymers and starch, the sludge is less sticky and
does not form slime
5. Can also be used at low water temperatures down to 4°C.
The solids in the Heppix series are dissolved on site or delivered as liquid products.
Application of the liquid products:
These products are delivered as a 1 to 2% solution, depending on their viscosity, in
- 1000 l bulk tanks (IBCs)
- 25 l canisters
and can be diluted as a concentrate or to 0.1 – 0.5% with water directly as a ready-to-use solution.
A maturation time of several hours is not necessary.
